As subjective beings our understanding of reality, in precise terms, is as varied and diverse as the number of humans there are. Yet unity is still possible, not unity in conformity but unity in the liberty and justice to exercise the human logical structure of thought. Necessarily this liberty and diversity inspires new thoughts and so civilization advances.
Any inspiration that affected an individual positively can be seen as guidance.
People identify sources of guidance and it can be said with certainty that some sources of guidance are contrary to human cooperation and therefore the guidance is poor and it does not advance civilization.
Keen observation by some leads them to find guidance that is more or less universal rather than strictly individual, and which advances civilization.
The universal guidance that is offered by religion is testable by various human means of investigation.
